Everything wrong with my new (old) truck.

The interior, despite spending hours cleaning it, went from filthy to just dirty.

The carpet needs to be replaced.

The column shifter is sloppy when shifting out of Park.

The diesel noises are very, very audible through the firewall (this is fun for short distances, but I imagine not for long hauls).

The steering wheel is still quite disgusting.

Mileage isn’t good.

It has this huge ladder rack on it that I don’t have a need for and is quite unattractive.

But, whatever, I got a big, reliable 4x4 diesel truck for very little. I love the thing. I’ll be selling the ladder rack, and replacing most of the interior...when I do that I’ll put down a layer of sound deadening.

I’m looking forward to fun times with my new project truck :D

Give it a 4 inch exhaust. 7.3's sound awesome with one.

Yeah, that is in the plan. Especially since once I tune it, I’ll need a 4" exhaust to keep EGT’s down.

Want to make a massive improvement to your driving experience? Get yourself on eBay and buy a leather steering wheel from an Expedition or F150 Lariat. Bolts right on, gets rid of your gross stock wheel that falls apart.

A larger downpipe would help that a lot as well.

Yeah, MBRP exhausts are so cheap I’d get the whole turbo-back system anyway.

Yep, I was looking at F-150 wheels!

You should look into seat covers or leather ones from a salvage truck.

Yeah, I’m gonna go to a salvage yard this weekend to see what I can find.

I’d love to put in the interior from the ‘08-’10 truck. All the mounting points are the same. Everything will fit! Dash, door panels, seats, console, etc..

The upholstery of the cloth seats is not worth cleaning, so if they stay in it’s getting seat covers for sure.

So I need to replace the serpentine belt this weekend....$35 and it will take FIVE MINUTES to install! Being a VW guy I don’t need to tell you how long of a job it was for my VAG-mobiles..

That’s true. You could just do that. The ergonomics aren’t as good from what I’ve heard though.

And I’m sure I’ll enjoy easy repairs once I get my hands on a truck. But I’ll still have to balance that out.

I might go look at this at some point: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/…

I don’t think the ergonomics are all that great to begin with, so I’m not terribly concerned. If I can just clean up the interior I’ll be happy enough.

You’re ok with a cabrio? Because I’m not.

I mean, I can entertain the idea of having a convertible. But not ideal for sure.

Most of the cars I’ve been looking into have over 100k on them. But I’d assume that would be fine....

This one is also on my visit list. Not a huge fan of the red interior though.

High mileage is fine as long as it has a complete maintenance history.

Color isn’t ideal, but that’s a full leather interior which to me makes the 996 interior sooo much nicer.

Agreed.

The fact that I’m going from a 2016 car to a couple pre-2010 cars is a bit weird to think about. But honestly, the A6 with 107,000 miles drives just as good (If not better) than the 2016 Jetta with 4000 miles on it.
